A new board has since been named with the Health County Executive Committee (CEC) Anastasia Nyalita noting that the process of recruiting a substantive CEO for the hospital is currently ongoing.

The new Mama Lucy Hospital Management Board members include Dorcas Kemunto (Chairperson), Bernard Gituma who will serve as a Secretary, Christopher Githinji (Mtumishi), MCA, Jennifer Mumbua Mutunga, Susan Wanjiru Kamau, Yvonne Peris Alera Makokha, Ronald Ngala Oniango, Fridah Wambui Nduati with Bernard Gituma as the Facility Incharge (Medical Superintendent).

“Dr. Bernard Gituma takes over as the Medical Superintendent. Dr Emma Mutio, the current
Medical Superintendent has been posted to Pumwani Hospital as a specialist. The process of recruitment of a substantive CEO for Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital as well as all our other level 5 facilities is ongoing and at an advanced stage,” part of the release read.

According to the hospital, the 26-year-old woman is said to have delivered a stillbirth two to three days before her visit to the hospital.

She is said to have visited the facility on Saturday, April 15, 2023, but her ultrasound results showed that the baby was already dead.

“The Ultrasound scan results came back revealing that the patient had experienced an IntraUterine Foetal Death (IUFD) at 38wks 5days,” the hospital claims.

The governor has however called out the hospital saying the situation should have been handled differently.

“Despite all this, and the patient and baby’s prior condition notwithstanding, we feel that she
could have been handled better. H.E. The Governor’s promise includes treating our citizens
with utmost dignity and care.”
