Locals in Wangu, Murang’a county conducted a secret ballot excercise to give away the names of drug dealers in the region.
The creative exercise that was held on Friday, May 5 at Koimbi Grounds saw the residents list the names of known drug peddlers in the area on a piece of paper for both illicit brew and bhang.
“I have taken all the names provided. You have participated in this exercise voluntarily and as a security agency, it is our responsibility to investigate the accused (drug selling) to the end,” Murang’a County police commander, David Kaingi stated.
Gachagua launched the campaign in a high-powered meeting of top Central Kenya leaders in Nyeri on Friday, April 14, 2023.
“The conference will come up with radical proposals on how to deal with the alcohol menace and abuse of drugs in this region. It will have far-reaching implications. The President is concerned and he has asked me to convene the conference,” the DP stated.
He later announced that the government is working on providing free cover to drug addicts in rehabilitation through National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF).
