According to the CS who spoke during a press conference on Friday, May 12, 2023, Murkomen alleged that the driver involved in the accident that occurred along the Nakuru-Naivasha highway was reckless and possibly on a suicide mission.

He explained that the students wouldn’t have lost their lives if the driver did not overlap. The CS added that the driver took advantage of the students since they were ‘unable’ to call him out for overlapping.

“The children who died in Naivasha would not have died had that driver not overlapped… He knew there was traffic but he kept on overlapping… But that driver was on a suicidal mission,” the CS said.

Further, the CS implored Kenyans to ensure that they hold drivers accountable whenever taking trips using public vehicles.

In the accident that occurred on April 18, 2023, the driver who was ferrying the students from western Kenya to Nairobi collided with an oncoming lorry that was heading n the opposite direction.

He lost control and the vehicle rolled down killing six students on the spot. None of the lorry occupants was injured during the unfortunate incident.
