Two security guards lost their lives on Saturday night April 15, 2023, during a brazen night robbery in Kisumu Central Business District (CBD).

The two guards were watching over businesses behind Telkom Plaza in Kisumu CBD when they were attacked by armed thugs.

Kisumu Central Sub-County Deputy police commander Jackton Mango said the guards were hit with a blunt object on their heads, killing them on the spot.

He suspected that the two guards were attacked while they were sleeping as they were found dead while in sitting positions on chairs.

“It seems like they were attacked when they were asleep because they were found sitting on their chairs,” said Mango.

The thugs proceeded to break into three electronic shops after killing the two guards. They made away with goods worth an unknown amount.

The bodies of the two guards were taken to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching & Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) mortuary.

Elsewhere, police in Starehe, Nairobi arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of 25-year-old Utalii College student Job Chihonyi.

Chihonyi was killed a few metres from Utalii College along Thika Road on February 5, 2023.

The suspects, Maxwel Omukuba Shisika and Kevin Ngechu Wanjiru, both 21 years old, were arrested after a forensic investigation that placed them at the crime scene at the time of the murder, according to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

“Starehe-based detectives assisted by sleuths from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau based at Nairobi Area, took up the matter and began joining the missing links in a meticulous probe that placed the suspects at the scene of the crime.”
