Police have recovered weapons and other items after raiding the Ethiopian Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) hideouts in Sololo and Merti sub-counties, Marsabit as part of the ‘Ondoa Jangili’ operation.
In a statement the National Police Service (NPS) said the multi-agency team seized guns, ammunition, walkie-talkies, camera stands, a solar panel, a generator, and marijuana items believed to be used by the militia in their illegal activities.
Police say the militia group has been taking advantage of close family and cultural ties between Kenya’s Borana and Ethiopia’s Oromo communities to hide among locals and continue their attacks.
Authorities have vowed to sustain the operation to flush out criminals and restore security in the region.
“These recoveries marks the beginning of sustained efforts to eliminate criminals from the areas and affirming NPS’ unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property, fostering a secure environment for the local communities,” the statement read.
