A significant cache of ammunition and military gear was intercepted at a police roadblock in Isiolo leading to the arrest of four suspects.
The operation, conducted at 1:30 a.m. at the Hospital Junction roadblock along the Marsabit-Isiolo highway, targeted a Mitsubishi Fuso lorry with registration number KCY 271N.
Upon inspection, officers discovered a concealed brown bag containing 158 rounds of live ammunition and various military items.
Among the ammunition recovered were 142 rounds of 7.62×39 calibre, commonly used in AK-47 rifles, and 16 rounds of 9mm ammunition typically used in pistols.
The haul also included a rifle cleaning kit, two pairs of military boots, a ground sheet, a military camelback, tactical and combat shirts, and military trousers.
The four suspects in custody have been identified as Arako Abdullahi, the lorry driver; Ali Hussein, 28; Udheifa Yusuf Garre, 20; and Khalid Abdi Rashid Garre, 18.
Both the suspects and the lorry are being held at Isiolo Police Station.
A multi-agency team is leading the investigation to establish the origins and intended destination of the recovered items.
Authorities have commended the officers involved in the operation for their vigilance and reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring security in the region.
