The Commission on Administrative Justice is calling on Kenya Airways Management and the Kenya Airline Pilots Association to find alternative avenues to resolve the ongoing dispute that affected the operations of the national carrier.
The commission Chairperson Florence Kajuju decried the protracted impasse saying it has been costly and therefore ought to be resolved in a timely manner to “mitigate and prevent against further public losses,”
“The impasse has caused has caused the suspension of air travel from 5th November 2022 which records serious negative implications not only for the airline but for the economy of Kenya as a whole,” Kajuju said in a statement.
In a letter copied to Cabinet Secretaries in the Ministries of Transport and that of Labour, Kajuju expressed concern that KQ is posting heavy losses since the pilots’ industrial action started on top of the fact that the goodwill of the national carrier is rapidly decreasing its sustainability risk.
“Notably, more than 10,000 passengers have adversely been affected notwithstanding the anxiety suffered by a higher number of their relations,” she said
According to Kajuju, the two sides ought to agree on an alternative way to resolve the dispute even as she expressed willingness by the commission to bring KQ and the pilots association to the negotiation table with a view to ending the dispute.
“In line with its mandate under sector 8 (f) of the Commission of Administrative Justice Act 2011, the commission offers to intervene and promote mediation as one of the options for the resolution of the current stalemate,” she said
