The Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) has launched a photography contest titled “Tembea Kenya, Capture Magical Kenya. ”

The contest is designed to showcase Kenya’s diverse travel destinations, with a special focus on hidden gems.

The contest will run on social media platforms, inviting Kenyans to capture various destinations, specify their location, and tag KTB on its official handles on X, Facebook, or Instagram.

KTB CEO, June Chepkemei, stated that the contest aims to involve the public in promoting overlooked tourism sites within their home counties, many of which boast significant tourism potential.

“At the county level, Kenyans have invested in tourism through accommodation and hospitality services around nontraditional tourism sites, opening up both urban and remote areas to tourism activities,” Chepkemei said.

“Unfortunately, most Kenyans remain unaware of these attractions. Through this contest, we hope to leverage the power of photography to bring these hidden gems to light.”

In addition to spotlighting new destinations, the contest also seeks to promote traditional tourism sites that are often perceived as catering primarily to international visitors.

“We recognize the critical role of domestic tourism in positioning Kenya as a global destination and sustaining the hospitality sector, especially during low seasons when international arrivals dip. This contest will help uncover more diverse experiences for local tourists,” Chepkemei added.

The photography contest will run from November 5 to December 11.

Participants are encouraged to showcase Kenya’s tourism assets across a range of themes, including Wildlife, Culture, Adventure, City Life, Landscapes, Conservation, and Sustainability.

The contest will culminate in a photo exhibition, with submissions divided into eight categories: Hidden Gems of Kenya, Kenyan Wildlife Wonder, Rich Cultural Heritage & Traditions, Breathtaking Landscapes, 50 Million Smiles – Kenyan People and Faces, Adventure in Kenya, Urban Vibes: Kenya’s Vibrant Cities, and Sustainable Travel – Community & Conservation Efforts.

Winners in each of the eight categories will receive cash prizes, with Ksh. 150,000 awarded for first place, Ksh. 70,000 for second, and Ksh. 30,000 for third.

These prizes will be presented across all categories, celebrating Kenya’s vibrant tourism potential.
