The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has dismissed reports on social media claiming that it arrested two suspects for breaking into the State House in Mombasa and sleeping in President William Ruto’s bed.

In a statement, the DCI clarified that the two suspects—Julius Muthomi, 20, and Pius Kang’ethe Maina, 29—were apprehended on November 11, 2024, by officers from the Central Police Station, Mombasa, for the offence of handling suspected stolen property.

The detectives also denounced the claims that the duo broke into Mombasa State House through an open window to feel how comfortable a president’s bed is as “fake news.”

“Contrary to the misinformation circulating online, the two suspects were arrested on November 11, 2024, by the OCS Central Police Station, Mombasa, for the offense of handling suspected stolen property,” the statement read.

The suspects were arrested in Mombasa’s Central Business District (CBD) following a tip-off from members of the public.

During the operation at the Rio Building along Digo Road, authorities recovered 51 mobile phones, several laptops, and other items valued at over Sh1.2 million.

Both the recovered items and the suspects were taken to the police station for further legal action.

“In the operation conducted at Rio building along Digo Road, 51 mobile phones, several laptops among other items worth over Sh1.2 million were recovered. Both the exhibits and the two suspects were escorted to the Station and legal action taken” the DCI said.
