President William Ruto is set to launch Ksh2.7 billion Mavoko Water Supply Project on Friday, March 14 on day one of his Ukambani development tour.

According to State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed, the project will provide water to 500,000 residents of Mavoko Township, Athi River, Mlolongo, and Syokimau.

“It will inject an additional 12,000m3 of daily water supply, up from the current 3000m3 to 15000m3 with 20,000 new connections to households.

“As an enabler, over 300 direct jobs have been created and 40% of the works were contracted to local MSMEs. The Project is in line with the commitment to provision of universal clean and safe water,” Hussein said in a series of tweets.

Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Cabinet Secretary (CS) Alfred Mutua has met Ukambani political and professional leaders and urged them to welcome the President who will be inspecting and launching government projects in the region.

“During the tour, the President will launch complete, ongoing and new development projects ahead of the prayer service in Machakos on 16th.

“The professionals, elected leaders, and government officials have been tasked to come up with development priorities to guide the tour.

“The team will also build consensus and unity of purpose among all elected and appointed leaders in the region to give our people a clear sense of direction,” he stated.

The meeting was attended by among others, Secretary to the National Security Council Amb. Monica Juma, MPs Nimrod Mbai, HJoshua Mwalyo, Mwengi Mutuse, Rachel Kaki, Fabian Kyule, Joshua Mwalyo and Caleb Mule.

It was also attended by professionals led by Senior Counsel Kioko Kilukumi (Machakos Convenor), Dr. Andrew Mulwa (Makueni Convenor), Advocate Wilfred Nyamu (Kitui Convener) Jeniffer Mumbua (Convenor Nairobi ), Francis Maliti former Deputy Governor Machakos and Florence Mwangangi former Machakos county speaker among others.
